“Science is like a sausage. It’s better not to see it being made,”
is my personal version of the ‘law and sausages’ quote that is so often misattributed to Otto von Bismarck. I can’t speak for the Iron Chancellor, but in my case it is less cynicism but -hopefully- just a keen sense for the reality of scientific practice, which often defies the purity of any glorified scientific method.
